# Setting up the AML/CTF Compliance Centre

## Summary

Before you can start using the AML/CTF Compliance Centre, you must complete the initial setup. This mandatory setup configures your workspace by confirming your business sector, assigning key roles to team members, and recording your AUSTRAC enrolment number, and completing your firm risk assessment.

## When to Use This

Use this guide when you are accessing the Compliance Centre for the first time and need to complete the initial configuration to unlock the full dashboard features. You must be an Admin user to perform these setup steps.

## Step-by-Step Instructions

1. **Access the Compliance Centre** either:

   1. directly from the triSearch, InfoTrack or Securexchange platform by clicking the **Compliance Centre** link in the header; or
   2. from your Practice Management Software by clicking the **AML** or **AML & VOI** button from the home dashboard; or
   3. directly from a matter in your Practice Management Software by clicking the **Compliance Centre** link.
2. **Select your sector**:

   * On the setup page, locate the **Select your sector** section.

   * Your sector may already be pre-filled.

   * If it isn’t, click the dropdown (for example, **Your sector**) and choose the industry sector that best describes your business (for example, Legal Services, Conveyancing, Real Estate Services, Accounting Services).
3. **Assign roles**:

   * Scroll to the **Assign roles** section.

   * Use the dropdown menus to select people for each role:

     * **Governing body**: In the **Governing body** subsection, select a user from the **Person in role** dropdown. This should be the primary user responsible for key decisions and oversight.

       * To add multiple Governing Body members, click **+ Add person** and select a user in each additional dropdown.

     * **Compliance officer**: In the **Compliance officer** subsection, select the designated user from the **Person in role** dropdown. This individual will manage compliance and enforce policies.

     * **Senior managers** (optional but recommended): In the **Senior managers** subsection, click **+ Add person** and select each relevant user.

   * One person can be assigned to multiple roles, if appropriate.

   * **Remove someone from a role (if needed):** Click the **trash can** icon next to their name and confirm by clicking **Remove**.

   * To understand the differences between roles, refer to our article [User roles and and Viewing permissions](https://infotrack-australia.brainfish.ai/en-us/articles/user-roles-and-viewing-permissions-bRocWCg8bk).

4. **Enter AUSTRAC details (optional)**:

   * Scroll to **Enter AUSTRAC enrolment number (Optional)**.

   * Enter your firm’s AUSTRAC enrolment number. You can skip this step and add the number later. If your firm is not yet enrolled, click the **here to enrol** link to register via the regulatory portal.
5. **Save configuration**:

   * Scroll to the bottom of the page and click **Save**.

   * A green confirmation banner reading "Success: Setup completed successfully!" will appear at the top right of the dashboard.

   * You will be redirected to the main Compliance Centre dashboard.

## What to do next

After completing the initial setup, you can use the top tabs on the dashboard to access the main areas of the platform. These commonly include:

* **Transactions** (typically your main landing page)

* Firm risk assessment: identify and mitigate sector-specific and client-related risks

* Policy and process: tailored to your firm's size and structure

* Staff onboarding: assign due diligence and keep your organisation compliant

* Training: ensure all team members are fully trained and verified

* **AUSTRAC reports**

* **Reliance agreements**

## Key Points

* **Mandatory setup**: You must complete this setup before you can access the main Compliance Centre features.

* **Mandatory fields**: You must select a sector and assign both a **Governing body** and a **Compliance officer** to proceed.

* **Multiple assignees**: You can assign multiple people to a single role if needed (for example, by using **+ Add person** for the Governing body).

* **Multiple roles**: One person can be assigned to multiple roles.

* **Self-selection**: You can assign yourself to these roles if appropriate.

## Common Questions

**Who can perform the setup?** Only users with Admin privileges can see the setup page. Non-Admin users will see a message directing them to contact their Compliance Officer.

**Are all roles mandatory?** The Governing body and Compliance officer roles are mandatory. The Senior manager role is optional at this stage but recommended.

**Can I add the AUSTRAC enrolment number later?** Yes. You can skip it during setup and add it later from the dashboard.

**How can I find out who the Admin user is?** Navigate to the **settings** icon in InfoTrack or triSearch and select the **Users** tab. Review the role **Type** column for the Admin user’s name. The Admin user is usually the firm owner.

**Can I add a Compliance Officer after initial set up?** At least one Compliance Officer must be nominated at set up but you can add other Compliance Officers during the onboarding process. Refer to our [Onboarding a Compliance Officer article.](https://infotrack-australia.brainfish.ai/en-us/articles/onboarding-a-compliance-officer-WXYLDi4h6w)

## Troubleshooting Tips

**I don't see the setup options.** Ensure you are logged in as an Admin. If you see a generic page asking you to contact a Compliance Officer, you do not have the necessary permissions.
